FedEx Female Employees Shoulder Great Responsibilities

In Honor of International Women’s Day, FedEx Express Highlights the Contributions of Female Employees in China

SHANGHAI, March 7, 2008 – In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), is recognizing the accomplishments of women around the world.  Female employees are key contributors to the culture and success of FedEx. In China, female employees account for32 % of the workforce, which is more than 6,000, and play an increasingly strong and significant role in various functional groups.

“FedEx is a proud supporter of diversity, gender equality and the advancement of women in the workplace,” said Eddy Chan, head of FedEx China. “We thank our female employees for their hard work and dedication each day in helping us deliver on our promise of outstanding customer service.”

FedEx People-Service-Profit (PSP) philosophy offers equal employment opportunities to the best-qualified individuals for every job opening when hiring and promoting.  FedEx also has in place a committed and sustained program that nurtures female talent and expertise, and actively helps women rise through the ranks and take leading roles in the company.

“FedEx views China as an important part of its strategy and the world views China as a great economy, so I believe I am at the right place at the right time,” said Kuan Thye Sean, managing director of Human Resources, FedEx China. “To me, my profession at FedEx is one of the best.  With FedEx growing so rapidly in China, the demand for talent requires the HR profession to play a major role.”

At present, nearly 40% of the managing directors and about 30% of the management team in Asia Pacific at FedEx are women. The overall, management numbers of women have been growing exponentially in the past three or four years.

"Working at FedEx makes me feel proud and valued,” said Liu Tong Tong, manager, Customer Service. “The company recognizes our contributions through various award programs, and we have comprehensive career development opportunities, no matter where one starts.  In my case, I started out at FedEx as a frontline customs clearance agent.  Now, I am a manager leading the Customer Service team in Northern China.”

Chen Jing, operations manager in Shenzhen, joined FedEx China in 1998 as a Ramp Agent. She moved on to become a gateway service agent and then served as a secretary in the ShenZhen office.  Chen Jing was selected to join the Management Development Success Program and in 2002 was promoted to station operation manager as a result of her outstanding performance.

The China market presents dynamic challenges and opportunities, in which women often must balance work and family.  “I am proud of being a female operations manager at FedEx for over five years,” said Chen Jing. “As my responsibilities have increased, I realized that without my family, especially my son, I can’t be successful at work.  Work life balance is the most important thing for my success.”

Long-committed to diversity both inside and outside the workplace, FedEx recognizes the contributions of female employees around the world and continues to embrace diversity as vital to the company’s continued success in today’s dynamic global marketplace.
