FedEx Helps the American Cancer Society Deliver Daffodil Days

March 17, 2008

Local FedEx operations delivered the first flower of spring – and a message of hope – around the country during the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days. Throughout the month of March, FedEx team members and local volunteers helped pack, sort and deliver millions of daffodils to help in the fight against cancer. Daffodils were delivered to local businesses, homes, offices, hospitals, schools and faith-based organizations.

Each year, Daffodil Days spreads the message that cancer can be beaten while also raising funds to support American Cancer Society’s programs of cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services.

In the New England region alone, Daffodil Days helped to raise nearly $3 million in 2008, and FedEx team members delivered more than 400,000 daffodils to the greater Boston community.

“It is inspiring to see our FedEx employees working hand and hand with volunteers from our local community during Daffodil Days. Raising money for the fight against cancer and having FedEx be a major part of that is very special. I personally find Daffodil Days to be my most rewarding of the entire year,” noted Joe Zingarelli, Operations Manager for FedEx Express, BVYA station (South Boston).

There was also strong FedEx support of Daffodil Days in New York, where tens of thousands of flowers were delivered around the metro and Long Island regions.

“We are very proud that we are a part of this effort,” said Nanette Malebranche, managing director of the FedEx Express Long Island district. “Long Island has the highest rate of breast cancer in the country so this is a big deal for my employees and our local communities. This is what makes us all so proud to work for FedEx.”

FedEx is committed to engaging the strength of its network in order to help organizations like the American Cancer Society. FedEx team members around the globe give their time and talents to many local and national organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in their communities.
