SHANGHAI, March 7, 2008 – In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), is recognizing the accomplishments of women around the world.  Female employees are key contributors to the culture and success of FedEx. In China, female employees account for32 % of the workforce, which is more than 6,000, and play an increasingly strong and significant role in various functional groups.

At present, nearly 40% of the managing directors and about 30% of the management team in Asia Pacific at FedEx are women. The overall, management numbers of women have been growing exponentially in the past three or four years.

Chen Jing, operations manager in Shenzhen, joined FedEx China in 1998 as a Ramp Agent. She moved on to become a gateway service agent and then served as a secretary in the ShenZhen office.  Chen Jing was selected to join the Management Development Success Program and in 2002 was promoted to station operation manager as a result of her outstanding performance. 

The China market presents dynamic challenges and opportunities, in which women often must balance work and family.  “I am proud of being a female operations manager at FedEx for over five years,” said Chen Jing. “As my responsibilities have increased, I realized that without my family, especially my son, I can’t be successful at work.  Work life balance is the most important thing for my success.”
