FedEx . . . Getting Business There Faster

When Brian Jones received a replica of the leg lamp used in the classic holiday film “A Christmas Story” as a gag gift one year, he had no idea it would launch him into a profitable small business years later.

On April 9, 2003, Brian founded Red Rider Leg Lamps, a direct sales manufacturer of the unique lighting fixture featured in the movie as a “major award.” His business has grown tremendously since that time – from 500 lamps sold his first year to about 6,000 in 2006. He relies on FedEx for all of his shipping needs, including specialty services like Customs Clearance to quickly reach customers in Canada, and FedEx Kinko’s to produce high-quality photos for the Christmas Story House, a Cleveland-based museum he opened in 2006 to recreate the movie’s sets in the actual home used as the film’s setting.

Brian, who has a great relationship with his FedEx representative, says the company is always looking for ways to keep things simple for him while he grows his business.

“When I first started shipping with FedEx, my sales representative helped me find discounts and set me up with all the equipment I needed to start printing FedEx labels right away,” Jones says. “When I began shipping more, she looked at my numbers and gave me a specialized pricing structure based on the services I use the most. FedEx anticipates my needs and the growth in my business, and tailors their services to help me get there even faster.”
