David J. Bronczek

President and Chief Executive Officer, FedEx Express

David J. Bronczek is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Memphis-based FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company. He assumed his current position in February 2000 after serving as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the company.  He also serves on the Senior Management Committee for FedEx Corporation.

Working his way up through the organization, Mr. Bronczek started in operations in 1976 and then served as a sales representative, operations manager, and senior operations manager before being named managing director in 1983 for the company’s Philadelphia “Liberty District.”

Bronczek moved into international operations in 1987, when he was promoted to vice president and general manager for Canada.  In March 1993, he was named senior vice president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), responsible for planning corporate strategy and implementing regional operations. Under his leadership, FedEx Express expanded service and strengthened its core network in the region, while EMEA contributed to a profitable international business.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Bronczek graduated from Kent State University in 1976. He was recently appointed by the President of the United States to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC); he is a member of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association, a member of the Board of Directors for International Paper, vice chairman for the Board of Visitors of the University of Memphis, and a member of the Board of Governors for National Safe Kids Campaign.  He serves on the Honors Advisory Board for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a member of Memphis Tomorrow.  He was general campaign chairman for the United Way of the Mid-South in 2000, chairman for Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way in 2006, and served on the Board of Trustees at the International School of Brussels and was a member of the Toronto Board of Trade.
