SafeKids India spread pedestrian safety message through photography

May 27, 2008
Body:

Last year FedEx and Safe Kids launched the Walk This Way program an annual event designed to teach pedestrian safety to children and to promote safe communities. As an extension of the Walk this Way program FedEx and Safe Kids has launched a unique Photojournalism Project that seeks to capture pedestrian safety concerns through the eyes of children

This project aims to explore and educate children on pedestrian and road traffic safety concerns and to build public awareness using an exhibition featuring children's photography on traffic environments.

The project began with an orientation for the participants on April 12, 2008, to familiarise children about pedestrian and traffic safety and warning them of the potential dangers. The orientation was followed by a photography education session where an expert photographer taught children the finer elements & techniques of photography.

The final phase to this outreach campaign involved field trips to different parts of Mumbai, giving children an opportunity to take pictures on the traffic environment in the city. FedEx employees volunteered to help and guide the children during the photography road trips.

These photographs will be displayed across Mumbai during the ‘International Walk This Way Month' in October.
